We use proven strategies from high-performing schools nationally, and build off of what works. This frees us to innovate in areas that are going to have the greatest impact on our students and families.
Here’s what makes us different:
MyAltura Student Information Access
Students, teachers, and families have access to resources, data, materials, and information from school and from home.
We believe that families are our most important partners, and that data drives decision making at all levels of the school, and so we are committed to making sure that everyone has access to the information they need in order to make decisions about students’ learning.
Extended School Day
Altura Prep students are in school from 8am until 4pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On Wednesdays, students dismiss at 1pm so that teachers have dedicated time to plan and improve their classes. This extended time means that Altura Prep students who are with us from Kindergarten through 5th grade receive the equivalent of an additional year of learning.
Altura Prep classrooms allow us to maximize time for personalized learning — learning that is tailored to each student and what they need when they need it. Blended learning is about teachers using the tools (small groups, online programs, and peers) available to make sure that each student learns at his or her level.Altura Prep is a 1:1 school, meaning each student has access to his or her own Chromebook every day. Students learn to see technology as tools to enhance their learning, rather than a device for playing games. Students learn to code, collaborate on online platforms, and have the opportunity to practice key concepts at their level. We are continuously focusing on what’s best for our students and our instruction, and we are constantly innovating to make sure that our students grow academically and personally.
Each Friday, students across the school work on a project that they have selected and planned. This hour allows students to find their passion, explore new fields, and develop their genius. A few times a year, Altura Prep will host Genius Hour Exhibitions in which students showcase what they have developed during Genius Hour.
R.E.A.C.H. Core Values
We believe that education is about more than math, reading, and writing. Altura Prep students learn, demonstrate, and celebrate our Core Values of Responsibility, Empathy, Agency, Curiosity, and Humor/Hard Work. Each week, we recognize students for displaying these values in our Friday Town Hall. For more on our R.E.A.C.H. core values, visit Our Values.
